Tips For Summer Ready Faux Tans

Summer is just around the corner, and given that spring has started with such beautiful weather, our team thought that now would be the best time to help you embrace your luscious legs as skirt season is well and truly upon us! Here’s our definitive guide to ensuring that you get the best and most natural tanned look for your legs this spring: Don’t – wax and tan on the same day. We’d advise that you do all of your waxing at least 24 hours before applying a fake tan.

Do - blend out self-tan lightly over your feet. Drier areas of skin need less product!

Don’t - panic and scrub your skin if you make a self-tan mistake. Simply take a long warm shower, buff off any excess colour that you can gently remove with your washcloth and then re-tan when you are dry!

Do - pick a gradual tanner if you are not the best at applying self-tanner or feel uneasy doing it. Graduals also seem to hold up better than other sunless tans when you swim, so keep this in mind if you’re going to be hopping in and out of a pool any time soon. Don’t - tan the night before if you’ve got a big event coming up and fancy a bit of a tan. Leaving a couple of days between tanning and your event means you’ve got enough time to fix any disasters! Take beauty blog, Pixiwoo’s advice,“if I have a special occasion coming up I like to apply my tan two days before. I always feel like the next day it’s too strong but by day two it’s perfect.”

Do – exfoliate! It can’t be said enough, and we’re sure you all know this one, but it needs to be said! Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and creates a smooth surface for the tan to be applied to. Don’t - use exfoliators that contain oils, as these will only act as a film on the skin. Whilst they’re wonderful for locking in moisture, oil based exfoliators aren’t very good for tanning at all.

Do - always apply fake tan using an applicator mitt like our ‘Body Buddy’ mitt: simply pump your product onto the mitt and apply to the skin using sweeping motions, rather than circular motions - remember you want to evenly distribute the product. The bonus for you is that our mitt is also a back applicator, so no struggling or calling in a friend! Find it here. Don’t – apply your fake tan and squeeze yourself into your favourite white summer dress; it’s a recipe for disaster, and your white dress will be destroyed, along with your beautiful fresh tan. The number one rule of dressing after tanning is to wear dark, loose clothing to avoid marking any wardrobe favourites – that’s where we come in with our incredible Bronzie Jumpsuit. Haven’t seen one? You’ll wish you had …. See them here. Got your own fake tan tips? Want to share your fake tan disasters with us? Check out our Facebook page!
